Jack is Back!

Torchwood Season 3 will be here in the summer, according to the article. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the show, but a little gheyrotic British scifi on the telly is always welcome. And, it will tide me over until there's a full season of Doctor Who, which won't happen until 2010 (with the new guy - not sure how I feel about having a 26 year old as the Doctor, but I'll give it a go). There will be four 'specials' throughout the year, so all is not lost.

But - 5 episodes? That seems odd, if I'm reading the article correctly. Normally, a season is around 13 episodes or so.

edit: just found out that the five episodes are all part of a single story, so it's a kind of miniseries.

The slow dance between Jack and the REAL Captain Jack?

One of the most loving and at the same time erotic things I've ever seen.

Yeah - that's a pretty cool clip:

Can you imagine that being shown on US network TV in primetime?

[identity profile] shirtlifterbear.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
In my dreams, yes.

*swoon*

But in reality?

I can just see ABC/Disney:

"Can't have anything showing Gay love, no sir! That might make them look NORMAL!"

Oooohhhh, I just watched the trailer - blood, gore and smoochin'. Looks like my kinda thing! ;)

The mini-series sounds good. It's nice to have a plot that isn't wrapped up within 45 minutes. That's one of the things I haven't liked about Doctor Who, although at least it had linking themes.

I'm still kinda torn about the young Doctor...it feels slightly wrong that the Doctor will be younger than me. LOL

Creepy children always make for a good story ("Midwich Cuckoos", anyone?!)

I had a big John Wyndham phase when I was in my teens - read a ton of his books.

Creepy kids:

Poltergeist!

The Bad Seed

The Omen

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the 1960s film version of Wyndham's book, "The Midwich Cuckoos" that they named "Village of the Damned", but the 1990s version with Christopher Reed and Kirstie Alley SUCKED!

Ahem.

I am not a horror movie guy at all, so my ability to rate such a film on it's "merits" is quite slim indeed.

BUT, I had heard that the remake blew goats.

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say it was more scifi than horror. The book is great - a nice little look at evolution, survival of the fittest - and what if we were not the top species on the planet and some 'cuckoos' were going to kick us out of the nest?

The 60s movie wasn't horrific at all. The 90s one was just kinda lame, but it was a little bit more gory than the original.

I see enough gore at work, you know?

Now, pop in a nice Europudding RomCom, and I am so there!

Yeah that really bothered me that they're catered to David Tennant's acting schedule elsewhere, but then when they get a new doc they still can't get us some shows? Sigh.

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that the lack of a season this year was due to Tennant's theatrical commitments. I wondered if they had decided to take a slight break in order to keep interest up. Mind you, I think it's still wildly popular in the UK.

Yeah He's got 2 other gigs going on. but I say, if he's going to be regenerated, then move him out early, but give me my damn show. I'm still pissed at the Donna resolution. I LOVED doctor donna!

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I was very impressed with Catherine Tate, especially since my only exposure to her before her stint as Donna was in her comedy stuff. I thought she did a great job - and it was good that, for once, the assistant was not pining for romance with the Doctor.

Inevitable..

[identity profile] heypyro.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Prior to season 4, it was said that Katherine Tate was only coming on for a season, an encore of her popular bride performance. All through season 4 there were hints that something would happen to Donna. Dr. River Song confesses knowing the Doctor to Donna, and when Katherine says she is Donna, River Song says "Oh my god! Donna Noble!" and refuses to tell Donna what happens to her.

Re: Inevitable..

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep - there was quite a bit of foreshadowing that 'something' was going to happen to her.

A pity.

I liked her, her mum, and Bernard Cribbins as her grandfather. Nice little nod to the 1960s Peter Cushing Doctor Who movie that he had a role in.

The nice thing about Torchwood 3 is the whole Owen/Tosh thing is over, and its not a big stretch to expect some new characters to appear.

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Rumors about Freema and maybe Noel Clarke (Mickey, Rose's unlucky boyfriend) maybe coming on board.

[identity profile] nzguy1.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
And the best we could get here was the start of Season 2 of Torchwood! That's via UK-TV. I'm hoping that it's just filling in for a while as repeats but somehow I don't think so! We only just had the Dr Who episode with the Dalek that became emotional and asked to be exterminated!

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
You mean the one with the Dalek-Human hybrid in 1930s New York? That's Season 3, I think, so you certainly have a bit of catching up to do!

[identity profile] nzguy1.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
No, the episode with the last Dalek in a 'museum' that is activated by the Drs assistant. It takes her DNA and starts to have emotions. Perhaps you haven't seen that one!

[identity profile] inbhirnis.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! That's from the very first season! We've just finished Season 4. You're WAY behind... I'm surprised that Australian TV wouldn't have picked it up sooner.

[identity profile] nzguy1.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ive since found out that UK-TV is WAY behind and ABC has had the latest series!I didn't think we were so backwards.
