According to this, the CBS producers think you can't possibly be deaf AND gay; or African American AND gay; you can only be one 'thing' for the viewing public to get their heads round.

They don't know what they are missing by not have a totally gay cast. Four Teams of Lesbians against 4 groups of gey men (One bear couple, One drag couple, one twinky couple, one 'Sisters'-drag')..it would be fabulous

Mike White, Mel's son, has said he was bi in the past. But as the article said, on this show, he said he was gay. Maybe bi-ness was too exotic, as well, so he was told to tone it down...

The foreigner that I am, I have no idea what that show is like (not that I'm really interested). But I know some people IRL who are too limited to understand such a "complicated" concept as bisexuality, so I guess it's just as complicated as somebody being deaf and gay at once.
